Running a Full Node and Staking on Free and Open Standard RISC-V Hardware
2026-11-04 –, Lightning Stage

RISC-V hardware has made massive speed improvements in the last 2 years. I give an update on our progress on staking on RISC-V hardware, the current hardware landscape and what clients work. I will also give a short glimpse into a future, where we might see RISC-V hardware when Ethereum is real time proven with zk proofs.

Following our Devcon 7 talk in Bangkok (https://app.devcon.org/schedule/J3SWYT), our goal to achieve RISC-V compatibility for Ethereum has reached a massive milestone: we can now successfully run a full node and run validators on RISC-V hardware, a goal over two years in the making.

This wasn't a solo effort. Through discussion and collaboration with client teams, tool developers and community members, we successfully identified and tackled critical implementation bottlenecks. Our previous talk inspired other community members and even a core dev (potuz) to work on the bottlenecks. The community member, contributed to the lighthouse client and also shared their achievements with the wider RISC-V community.

I will use this talk to share our technical milestones and celebrate the "cross-pollination" of ideas that makes Ethereum's ecosystem so resilient and how we managed to bring software, hardware and people together.
