oksolc, a Solidity compiler in Zig
2026-11-04 –, Lightning Stage

We recently released oksolc, a new port of the Solidity compiler in Zig. It provides about 7x faster compilation while maintaining parity with the compiler output, including metadata.
In this talk, we detail how we built it, the different optimizations that we made and will give a hint about the roadmap.

oksolc is a reimplementation of the Solidity compiler in Zig 0.16. Its principal compilation route translates Solidity into Yul, optimizes structured Yul, lowers it to EVM assembly, and produces linked creation and runtime bytecode through the Standard JSON interface. This talk will detail how we built it, and detail several optimizations and the methods we used for this. In particular, we will see how the constraints imposed by compatibility with Solidity 0.8.36 impacted us.
