What it takes to ship an onchain credit card to non-crypto users

Most of what makes DeFi work is exactly what confuses everyday users. A look at what it takes to close that gap, drawn from shipping an onchain credit card to non-crypto users.

DeFi assumes users who understand wallets, gas, and liquidations. Most people don't, and building for them means solving problems that have little to do with smart contracts: how accounts get created and recovered, how risk gets explained, what happens when a payment goes wrong, and how much of the underlying chain users should see at all.

The session goes through each of these problems, the common approaches to solving them, and which ones hold up in production. Examples are drawn from an onchain credit card used by non-crypto customers, including data on where users struggled and what changed as a result.

I like math and cryptography. I work as a software engineer at ether.fi and was an ethereum protocol fellow. I believe ethereum will bring global finance on-chain.
