Every 12 seconds, Ethereum produces a new block full of transactions, fees and smart-contract activity. Most people only see this data as a list of hashes on a block explorer. In this hands-on workshop, you will turn it into a live dashboard of your own.
We'll use Visdom and Web3.py to connect to an Ethereum node and stream blockchain data into charts. By the end of the session, each participant will have a working dashboard that updates with every new block, showing:
base fee and priority fee over time
transactions per block
legacy vs. EIP-1559 transaction types
the distribution of ETH transferred
a network overview panel with the latest headline figures
You'll learn how to arrange and save dashboard layouts, and how to set up separate environments for mainnet, testnets or individual contracts. We'll also look at next steps: smart-contract analytics, DeFi and NFT tracking, node health monitoring, and visualizing machine-learning models trained on on-chain data, such as anomaly or bot detection.
No blockchain experience is needed. Basic Python is enough.
What participants bring: A laptop with Python 3 installed, and a free Ethereum RPC endpoint from any provider. It would help to share setup instructions in advance so no workshop time goes to installs.
I'm Manik Khajuria, a Google Summer of Code 2026 contributor with FOSSASIA and a student at NIT Jalandhar (class of 2028). Since March 2026, I've had 92 pull requests merged into Visdom, FOSSASIA's open source dashboard for machine learning experiments with over 10,000 GitHub stars.
My work covers five layers of the project: a storage abstraction layer, an experiment search layer with an injection-safe query parser, a hyper-parameter tracking dashboard, a pytest suite of nearly 1500+ tests, and the migration of Visdom's server and client to asyncio. Along the way I also shipped security fixes, new ML plots such as ROC curves and confusion matrices, and the React 19 upgrade.
Outside open source, I'm a competitive programmer with over 2,000+ DSA problems solved. I've completed two internships, and I build with Python, React and Next.js.

Based in both Vienna, Austria and Ishikawa, Japan, his professional journey spans multiple domains, including machine learning, big data, data analytics, and software development, underpinned by a solid foundation in many-valued logics, proof theory, intuitionistic logic, and mathematics. His expertise extends into the realms of algebraic specification and CafeOBJ, showcasing a remarkable blend of theoretical insight and practical application.
Currently, Norbert serves as a Principal Software Engineer at arXiv, contributing to the forefront of academic publishing and scientific communication. Prior to this, he honed his skills as a Senior Machine Learning Engineer at Mercari, Inc., where he tackled complex challenges in the e-commerce space with innovative AI solutions.
Jayant Parashar is an open source contributor and ML engineer. He's a GSoC 2026 contributor at FOSSASIA, where he's building native autologging for Visdom — extending it across PyTorch, Keras, PyTorch Lightning, XGBoost, and scikit-learn so training metrics stream to the dashboard without manual logging code.
I’m a developer and researcher working on open-source software, AI, quantum computing, and secure systems. I have contributed to several open-source projects and have published research papers with Springer Nature. I’m currently working on Visdom to make experiment tracking and research reproducibility easier.
Vedansh Saini is a backend and systems engineer and open source contributor studying at IIT (BHU) Varanasi, and an incoming SDE intern at Amazon (Summer 2027). He is a two-time Google Summer of Code contributor at FOSSASIA. In 2025 he built Scrum Helper, which he presented at FOSSASIA Summit 2026, and in 2026 he has been working on Visdom Cloud, which adds multi-tenancy to the open-source Visdom visualization tool. He has been a mentee under CNCF KubeStellar and has contributed to the AI Alliance's gofannon project and Apache Mahout. He also serves as a Tech Team Representative at IIT (BHU). His interests are distributed systems, developer tooling, and AI infrastructure.
