EIP-8304: Trustless log and transaction index in Geth
2026-11-04 –, Workshop 2

Every Ethereum log query today runs on trust, the node or indexer serves you results you cannot verify. EIP-8304 makes logs and transactions provable by committing a merkleized index to the chain, and this talk walks through the design, the first full implementation in Geth, the real cost of building the index every block, and what it unlocks for trustless indexing and light clients.

Every log query today runs on trust, dashboards, indexers and commercial RPCs assume the serving node is honest, nothing in a response is provable. Light clients cannot verify completeness, selective omission goes unnoticed. EIP-8304 builds an index into the protocol, a system contract called each block commits transactions and logs as sorted, variable-length entries into chained SSZ-merkleized tables, staggered merges keep per-block work and storage incremental.

The index unlocks trustless log queries with inclusion, exclusion and completeness proofs for light clients

I enjoy working on Ethereum infrastructure, zk tooling and verifiable computing. Interested in cryptography, formal methods, and building systems where you don't have to blindly trust the software you're running (particularly in the browser! BIG WASM maxi)
