Session
Money is becoming software. Tokenized deposits, digital currencies and tokenized real-world assets are moving from pilots into the financial system, and programmable money lets payments carry their own rules. This raises a big question for the open source community: will the rails for this new financial layer be open, or controlled by a few platforms?
Much of this infrastructure already runs on open source. Enterprise-grade Ethereum clients such as Hyperledger Besu, open token standards like ERC-20 and ERC-3643, and interoperability protocols are being used by banks and institutions experimenting with tokenization worldwide. India has shown with UPI and its wider digital public infrastructure that open, interoperable systems can reach hundreds of millions of people.
